Almerida is a popular, but low key tourist resort in the Apokoronas region of West Crete.  Still retaining its traditional Cretan charm, this  fantastic beachside location has a beautiful, sandy Blue Flag beach and small harbour.

The beach front is lined with tavernas selling home cooked Greek food and cafes and bars offering refreshing drinks throughout the day and long into the evening.

There are plenty of watersports available during the summer months and a range of small shops including a bakery, pharmacy and mini market as well as gift shops selling arts and handicrafts and holiday souvenirs.

For history lovers, you will find the remains of an early Christian Basilica with beautiful examples of early mosaic flooring on the outskirts of the village.  Almerida is also just a short drive from Vamos, with its folklore museum and around 20 minutes drive from the historic Venetian harbour town of Chania.

During the winter months the magnificent snow capped mountains - the Lefka Ori - make a stunning backdrop to the village.

The international airport at Chania can be reached in around 40 minutes, making Almerida and its surrounding area a perfect destination for a holiday home, investment property or permanent home.
