Kalamitsi is a pretty traditional village enjoying magnificent views of the Lefa Ori - or White Mountains - which are snow capped in winter time.
This tranquil village is typcially Cretan and has a local taverna, kafenion and a small store. Perfect if you are looking to immerse yourself in local village life, or want a holiday away from the hustle and bustle of the busy tourist resorts.
As is typical in many of the small villages, local produce sellers visit the village on a daily and weekly basis selling home grown produce and wares, freshly baked bread and fresh fish.
The larger village of Vamos is close by and here you will find many facilities including shops, post office, butcher, bakery, pharmacy and health centre.
Kalamitsi is perfectly placed for exploring both the Chania and Rethymnon areas. Lake Kournas and the long sandy beach of Georgiopouli to the east, and the beaches of Almerida and Kalives to the west, are just a short drive away.
The Venetian towns and harbours of Chania and Rethymnon can be reached in around 30 minutes and the port of Souda in around 20 minutes.
